Traction Sud
THE ABANDONED CAR GRAVEYARD IN BELGIUM
‘Traction Sud‘ is an intriguing truck graveyard hidden in the woods of South Belgium. Here, you’ll find a vast collection of old army and firetrucks, many of which hail from the former East Germany.
This truck yard belongs to an active company which operates as a garage for repairing and reconstructing old vehicles. In the backyard of this garage, there is a huge junkyard full of old army- and firetrucks.
Most trucks are from the former DDR government. On the army trucks, you can recognize the old DDR logo. Also, there are some 1950s American trucks, soviet BKM (Buksirno Motornij Kater) boats and some red-cross VW Beetles. You also can find some firetrucks, German THW (Technisches Hilfes Werk) trucks and some military ambulances. Other brands are Magirus-Deutz, DAF and Tatra.
Of course, these vehicles should be renovated or in a museum. But seeing these covered in green makes it also a very special sight. I visited ‘Traction Sud’ in 2006.
